An officer from the New York City Police Department, tasked with safeguarding Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s residence and City Hall, has been suspended following an incident in which he allegedly shot a man in the head while off duty.

The incident unfolded in the Bronx around 9 p.m. on Monday, after the officer engaged with a group of men in connection to a stolen vehicle, as reported by the NYPD.

Authorities have yet to disclose the officer’s identity, and as of Thursday morning, he has not faced arrest or criminal charges. Nevertheless, he has been suspended without pay.

Mamdani’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

The city’s official mayoral residence is a stately home known as Gracie Mansion located in the Yorkville neighborhood of Manhattan.

A manager of a bar across the street from where the shooting occurred said one of the business’s windows was struck and cracked by gunfire.
