OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — In a dramatic turn of events in Oklahoma City, a 17-year-old boy is now facing a slew of charges after a police officer employed an unusual tactic to catch him during a pursuit involving a minibike. The chase, which unfolded on March 6 near the intersection of Santa Fe and Grand Boulevard, was captured entirely on the officer’s body camera.

The pursuit was triggered when an officer noticed two mini-bikes being driven without headlights. As the riders split ways, the officer seized the opportunity to enlist the help of a nearby civilian, using their car to close in on one of the suspects.

In an extraordinary move, the officer climbed onto the hood of the civilian’s car to continue the chase. Balancing himself with one hand, he directed the driver with the other, expertly guiding the vehicle toward the fleeing teen. The civilian complied with the officer’s instructions, driving alongside the mini-bike until they were able to intercept the suspect.

When the riders separated, the officer used a bystander’s vehicle to catch up with one of the suspects. The officer then jumped from the car’s hood to go after the teen.

While riding on the hood of the bystander’s car, the officer maintained his position by hanging on with one hand. He used his other hand to point and provide directions to the driver, guiding the vehicle toward the suspect. The civilian followed these directions until the car pulled alongside the mini-bike.

Once close enough to the bike, the officer jumped from the moving vehicle’s hood directly onto the rider.

After the takedown, the officer placed the teenager in handcuffs. During the arrest, the suspect claimed he was unaware that law enforcement was attempting to pull him over. He also made a request to call his mother while being detained.
