AUGUSTA, Ga. – Team spirit shone brightly at the Richmond County School System’s Special Olympics, held on Thursday, showcasing the power of collaboration and community.
The event commenced with an inspiring torch run during the opening ceremony at Butler High School on March 19. Athletes from various schools within the district gathered to participate, while staff members and families generously volunteered their time and support.
The athletes, brimming with enthusiasm, competed in events such as the 50-meter dash, softball throw, tennis ball throw, and bean bag toss, bringing energy and joy to the day.
“This event allows us to give back to our students,” expressed Dr. Larina Thomas, the director of special education. “It’s a moment for all staff members to serve our students, and seeing their smiling faces and receiving their hugs brings us immense joy. The excitement is palpable.”
Over 200 middle and high school students enthusiastically took part in the games, creating unforgettable memories and strengthening community bonds.
