Hope Hicks, a notable presence during Donald Trump’s first term as President, remains an enigmatic figure with a fascinating backstory. Her connection with the Trump family began when she worked for Ivanka Trump, modeling for her fashion line. It was in October 2014 that Donald Trump spotted her potential, initially hiring her for a public relations role within his real estate empire. By 2015, Hicks found herself thrust into the political spotlight as Trump persuaded her to join his nascent presidential campaign as a press secretary, despite her lack of political experience. Her proximity to the President was a point of intrigue among many.

Hicks managed to stay relatively under the radar until May 2017, when she accompanied Trump to meet with the Pope, marking her as one of the select few in attendance. Her visibility increased further in July 2017 when she was the sole aide present during Trump’s explosive interview with The New York Times, which addressed the Russia investigation. This raised numerous questions about her role, ultimately leading to her resignation announcement in February 2018, just a day after she admitted to Congress that she occasionally told white lies for the President. Trump ensured that her departure did not go unnoticed.

On March 29, 2018, Hicks bid farewell to her role as Trump’s press secretary, although she would return two years later. Their parting moment was widely captured by the media, showcasing Trump leaning in to whisper something to Hicks, only to plant a kiss on her cheek instead. Hicks reciprocated with a gesture of her own. “I will miss having her by my side … and I’m sure we will work together again in the future,” Trump remarked at her departure, according to CBS News. This farewell came amid rumors fueled by a journalist’s allegations of Trump’s controversial comments about Hicks.

Just months before her initial departure from the White House, a book surfaced, revealing a rumored affair between Hope Hicks and Corey Lewandowski, who would later be linked to Kristi Noem. In January 2018, Michael Wolff’s book, “Fire and Fury,” took a critical look at Trump’s administration. Wolff claimed that Trump had commented to Lewandowski that Hicks was “the best piece of tail” he could hope to have, highlighting the contentious atmosphere surrounding her time in the administration.

Donald Trump trusted Hope Hicks

A couple of months before she left the White House the first time, a book exposed a rumored affair between Hope Hicks and Corey Lewandowski, who would later be infamously linked to Kristi Noem. In January 2018, author Michael Wolff published his book “Fire and Fury,” which took aim at Donald Trump’s administration. Wolff claimed that Trump, aware of the affair, told Lewandowski that Hicks was “the best piece of tail” he could hope to have.

Despite that alleged remark and Hicks’ exodus, the former press secretary and Trump remained on good terms, as she later rejoined his administration in March 2020 as a counselor. By October, Hicks was on the campaign trail with Trump for a rally in Florida, where she spoke to the crowd. Trump was seen gleefully laughing and enthusiastically applauding while Hicks gave her speech. She later stepped away when Trump’s time in office was up, but her relationship with him still made headlines.

Hicks was called to testify during the Stormy Daniels trial in May 2024, where she was questioned about her time as Trump’s campaign press secretary in 2016. “He wanted to make sure that there was a denial of any kind of relationship,” Hicks admitted on the stand, per Reuters, when speaking about Trump’s attempts to hide his affairs with Daniels and model Karen McDougal. “He was concerned about how it would be viewed by his wife,” Hicks added.

That same month, a report from Politico claimed that, even though she had to submit some damning testimony, Hicks was someone Trump trusted. “Hope was one of the president’s most loyal and dedicated advisers,” former White House official Raj Shah told the outlet. “The president instinctively trusted her judgment.”
