In a shocking incident that unfolded yesterday morning, police report that a 16-year-old boy stabbed a childcare worker on her way to work at the M-City Shopping Centre in Clayton. The attack occurred just before 8 a.m. and has left the community reeling.

As they ascended, the young male allegedly drew a knife from his pocket and stabbed the woman in the back in a sudden and unprovoked attack.

Following the assault, he reportedly fled the scene, racing down the escalator in a hasty escape.

The victim, visibly startled and disoriented, turned to assess her surroundings before rushing up the escalator, presumably seeking help or safety.

She remains in a serious but stable condition at The Alfred hospital.

The 16-year-old boy was arrested a short time later at a medical centre in Clayton.

He has been charged with intentionally causing injury, recklessly causing injury, assault with a weapon, possessing a controlled weapon, theft and committing an indictable offence whilst on bail.

He has been remanded to appear at a children’s court at a later date.
