Tax refunds are experiencing a significant boost this year, with figures showing an 11% increase. The average refund as of March 27 has reached $3,521, a jump of approximately $350 compared to the same period last year, according to the latest IRS filing data.

This rise in refunds can largely be attributed to the effects of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a legislative change introduced by President Donald Trump last July. The act brought about new deductions that have particularly favored tips, overtime, and seniors, leading to larger refunds for many taxpayers.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent highlighted that nearly half of the filers have benefited from at least one of the key provisions of this law. Notably, over 4.6 million individuals have claimed a deduction for tips, and nearly 20 million have taken advantage of the “No Tax on Overtime” benefit.
