Marshawn Kneeland, a defensive end for the Cowboys, tragically passed away last November. His girlfriend, Catalina Mancera, recently celebrated the birth of their child.
Mancera took to Instagram on Monday to announce the arrival of their baby, Makhai, who was born on June 11. She posted heartwarming photos of the newborn dressed in a onesie adorned with an image of Kneeland sporting his Dallas Cowboys jersey.
In her post, Mancera expressed her emotions with the words, “My favorite gift from you 🤍.”
Among the shared memories was a poignant video showing the moment she revealed a positive pregnancy test to Kneeland.
Earlier, Mancera had informed her social media followers about her expected due date in June.
Kneeland was selected 56th overall in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Cowboys.
He died by suicide at the age of 24 in November following a police pursuit on Dallas Parkway near Warren Parkway, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Kneeland was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Frisco police — who said they received information during their pursuit that Kneeland had expressed suicidal ideations.
According to 911 dispatch audio obtained by TMZ Sports, an operator stated that Kneeland’s girlfriend said she received a concerning message from him and was trying to contact the defensive end’s agent.
A 911 operator said on the audio that his girlfriend stated that Kneeland was armed, had a history of mental illness — and she quoted him as saying he would “end it all.”
The incident took place two days after Kneeland played 17 snaps during the Cowboys’ 27-17 loss to the Cardinals.
