In a troubling case out of New York, a mother is entangled in legal proceedings after accusations arose that she allowed her children to ride in a car operated by her intoxicated girlfriend.
Twenty-seven-year-old Nathalie Alejandro was recently released from custody following charges of criminally negligent homicide linked to the tragic death of her three-year-old daughter, Yasmeen Shaaf. Documents from court cases, shared by WSYR, a local ABC station, reveal that shortly after midnight on July 31, Alejandro, alongside her children—Yasmeen and her seven-year-old brother Mark Shaaf—entered a Kia Sorrento. Behind the wheel was Alejandro’s girlfriend, 25-year-old Jazmine Vann.
A report from WKOF, a CBS affiliate, highlights a criminal complaint against Vann,, alleging she was “intoxicated” at the time and had “admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages before the collision.”
Vann, now facing 17 serious felony charges, including first- and second-degree vehicular manslaughter, assault, aggravated vehicular homicide, child endangerment, DWI, and reckless driving, was apprehended after receiving medical care for accident-related injuries. She is currently held at the Onondaga County Justice Center, with a hefty bail set at $500,000 in cash or a $750,000 bond, according to Syracuse.com’s report.
Alejandro’s and Vann’s next court dates were not immediately available.
