Two women were wounded in separate shootings near the West Indian Day Parade route in Brooklyn on Monday afternoon, as violence broke out around the Crown Heights celebration, according to law-enforcement sources.
The first incident was reported around 4 p.m. near 798 Nostrand Ave., where a woman was struck in the leg by gunfire, sources said.
A witness identified as Edward said the moments before the shooting were chaotic. “There were a bunch of people fighting at the top of the block. … And then all of the sudden, you hear, ‘Pop, pop,’” he recalled.
Images from the scene showed police officers taking a person into custody as investigators responded to the area.

A short time later, just after 4 p.m., a second woman was also shot in the leg in a separate incident near Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue, another busy stretch of Crown Heights close to the parade route, sources said.
Cops are still looking for the shooter in the second blasting, according to sources.
The bullets flew as four people were stabbed hours earlier, just before the parade was to start, near Carroll Street and Utica Avenue in the neighborhood.
