President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, said Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar is the subject of an investigation by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and could potentially face deportation.
During an appearance on Fox News’ The Sunday Briefing with host Jacqui Heinrich, Homan said ICE was investigating Omar, echoing remarks Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin made last week in an interview with right-wing podcaster Benny Johnson.
‘I know things are going on, but I can’t give specifics of what’s happening. But we’ll see,’ Homan said Sunday.
When Heinrich pressed him on whether there was an investigation involving the Minnesota congresswoman, Homan again answered yes.
‘I’m confirming that ICE is, yes, like I said months ago, that is something that’s been reported and needs to be looked at,’ Homan said.
Mullin alleged last week that Omar, who was born in Somalia, had ‘married her brother’ and could face deportation. In his Sunday interview, Homan said that if someone had committed marriage fraud or another offense, ‘regardless if they’re a congressman or not, no one’s above the law.’
Heinrich also asked Homan how Omar could be deported if she is a naturalized US citizen.
‘Look, you know, I’ve been around 40 years, and we’ve done denaturalized cases. We have denaturalized citizens based on fraud, based on lying under applications or lying through the process, misrepresenting themselves, or maybe misrepresenting organizations they belong to or beliefs they have,’ Homan said.

‘But denaturalization is a process, it’s a very serious process. So if someone lies through that process to becoming a citizen, and we can prove they in fact lied or misrepresented themselves, we can absolutely denaturalize them. We’ve done it before, many times over the last 40 years I’ve been around so it’s a process,’ Homan added.

‘We know that she married her brother to try to bring him into the United States,’ Mullin said of the Minnesota Democrat last week. ‘We know he lives now in London,’ he also told Johnson on his podcast.
Mullin was referencing the second man Omar married, who the Daily Mail has previously reported is Ahmed Elmi. Both Omar and her ex-husband are originally from Somalia.

She allegedly was still married to her first husband, Ahmed Hirsi, at the time of the second marriage, the congresswoman has told friends who relayed the account to the Daily Mail.
Omar has long denied the allegations of marriage fraud. She has since remarried a third time and is presently wed to political consultant Tim Mynett.
Mullin told Johnson that Omar’s actions amounted to ‘possible illegal activity’ and the investigation is ‘ongoing,’ breaking a standard where officials typically do not discuss active investigations.
‘We’re investigating,’ he said before threatening to deport her should the investigation warrant such a dramatic action.
‘There’s no expiration to that,’ he said of the potential charges. ‘If we can prove it that, maybe you shouldn’t have been here in the first place, we’ll deport you.’
Mullin appeared to be alluding to potential immigration documents being falsified, which would be a deportable offense. That plan could face difficulty given Omar became a naturalized US citizen in 2000, when she was 17.
