Mikayla Matthews Leaves SLOMW, Cites Toxic Behavior

Mikayla Matthews is stepping away from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.

The reality TV personality revealed Monday in an Instagram post that she is leaving the popular Hulu series. Matthews said she could no longer feel comfortable earning money from a show that, in her view, gives a platform to unethical and immoral conduct.

“I made my decision over a week ago, after hearing some news, that I will not be continuing the show at this moment,” Mikayla wrote. “I’ve said from the beginning of this that I’m not comfortable being a part of something that continues to platform behavior I don’t agree especially given my own experience growing up in a home with multiple forms of abuse.”

“There’s no amount of money worth going against my morals or changing the stance I’ve had since I first saw and heard the things that made me feel this strongly. And for me personally, continuing to directly profit from this behavior feels wrong and unethical,” she continued. “It feels like a disservice to the children, everyone’s healing and the millions of people watching.”

Matthews did not identify the specific behavior behind her decision to leave SLOMW. However, her comments appeared to reference co-star Taylor Frankie Paul. Earlier this year, Paul and her former partner, Dakota Mortensen, were involved in a domestic incident that led to police being called. Video later emerged of a 2023 altercation in which Taylor threw a chair at Dakota, nearly striking her child. The former couple has since entered a contentious custody dispute involving their 2-year-old son, Ever, and both have mutual restraining orders in place.

The Hulu star said she no longer felt able to participate in a system she believes enables harmful behavior.

“Supporting an ADULT doesn’t mean constantly making excuses for toxic behavior while giving unconditional sympathy and grace with zero accountability or change,” she wrote. “I was in that enabling cycle for years, and I’m not going to be a part of that again!”

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is streaming on Hulu.
