J Balvin is entering a new chapter on his own.
The “Mi Gente” artist’s longtime girlfriend, Valentina Ferrer, has announced that she and Balvin, whose real name is José Álvaro Osorio Balvín, have ended their relationship after nearly a decade together.
Ferrer, who shares 5-year-old son Río with Balvin, confirmed the split in a Sept. 16 Instagram statement translated from Spanish. “After sharing so many years and important moments together, José and I have decided to take separate paths,” she wrote.
“It was a decision made out of love, respect and the desire to do what is best for our family,” she continued. “Our priority will be continuing to be there for Rio with all our love.”

While the Miss Argentina winner did not reveal what led to the breakup, she indicated that both she and the Colombian star are at peace with their decision.
“We are moving through this process calmly,” Ferrer concluded, “and are profoundly grateful for the understanding and respect shown in this very personal moment for us.”
