Pregnant newlywed found dead after Venice boat crash killed husband, family says ‘things don’t add up’

The pregnant newlywed who vanished in the water after a Venice boating collision that killed her husband has been found dead, as her family raises questions about a heated argument the couple allegedly had the night before the crash.

Gabriella Querino’s body was recovered from the Venice lagoon on Tuesday, more than a mile from the site where the body of her husband, fisherman Sean Michieli, was found Saturday morning. Their boat had sunk following a collision with a water taxi, according to Italian newspaper Il Giornale D’Italia.

Authorities have opened a nautical homicide investigation. Querino’s relatives have voiced their own concerns, saying “there are too many silences and things that don’t add up.”

Querino, 26, and Michieli, 25, had been married for only three months. However, her family said the relationship nearly ended the evening before the fatal boating trip.

The couple had a “serious argument” the night before the accident, relatives said, and Querino told them she was packing her bags and preparing to leave.

Querino, who had relocated to Italy from Brazil two years earlier, later sent her mother, Gisele Elorriaga, a message saying the dispute had been resolved and that the pair were going out to dinner.

“I’ll tell you tomorrow,” Querino reportedly wrote to her mother, who lives in Brazil.

Her family said the text was out of character for the recently married woman, who typically preferred speaking by phone.

“She video-called every day, no matter what happened,” her relatives said.

“She hated communicating via texts; she never did.”

Elloriaga arrived in Italy on Tuesday night – hours after the body was found.

“I lost two children,” the devastated mom told Gazzettino.

Michieli’s cause of death hasn’t been released, with an autopsy set for next week.

He was hospitalized with serious injuries after being pulled from the water before he died.

Michieli’s sister, Chantal, has since broken her silence online, writing, “I would give anything to have just one more minute with you.

“I love you, my big brother.”

A nautical homicide investigation is underway, but Querino’s family said “there are too many silences and things that don’t add up.”

Authorities are looking to speak to two American tourists who were on board the water taxi at the time of the collision.
