Mets’ Jared Young Stretchered Off After Collision With Nolan McLean

Thursday’s Mets-Phillies matchup was briefly halted after Mets first baseman Jared Young was carted off the field following a frightening collision with ace Nolan McLean.

The incident occurred with two outs in the top of the sixth inning, when Phillies hitter Brandon Crawford sent a slow ground ball into the space between McLean and Young. As the ball rolled onto the infield dirt and McLean was unable to reach it, Young dove in an attempt to make the play. During the effort, Young’s head struck McLean’s right knee.

Both players went down immediately. Trainers rushed onto the field to treat Young, who remained on the dirt after the collision. He was later placed in a neck brace, helped onto a stretcher and transported off the field by cart. McLean appeared shaken but stayed in the game after the delay ended.
