Ukrainian forces launched more than 1,000 drones at targets across Russia overnight, including hundreds headed toward Moscow, Russian officials said Sunday as the Kremlin concluded the third and final day of parliamentary voting.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin called it the largest drone assault ever recorded against the Russian capital. He said strikes damaged the Moscow Oil Refinery and a residential building.
The overnight attack killed two people and injured 20 others in the broader Moscow region, Gov. Andrei Vorobyov reported. Those killed were identified as a 74-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman.
Ukraine had not immediately issued a statement regarding the reported drone strikes.
The election marked Russia’s first parliamentary vote held during wartime. With virtually no meaningful opposition challenging President Vladimir Putin’s policies, the result is widely expected to further reinforce the Kremlin’s political control.
Voting also took place in four Ukrainian regions that Russia claimed to annex after launching its full-scale invasion, although Moscow does not fully control them. Ballots were also cast in Crimea, the Black Sea peninsula Russia seized and annexed in 2014. Kyiv has condemned the voting as illegitimate.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces intercepted 1,100 Ukrainian drones over locations throughout the country, as well as over Crimea and the Black Sea.
Sobyanin said 450 of the drones were destroyed while approaching Moscow. He confirmed that the attack caused damage at the city’s oil refinery and at a residential structure.
The mayor characterized the “unprecedented attack” as an effort to interfere with Russia’s elections.
“The enemy failed in this regard,” Sobyanin said.
