Presley Gerber died at the age of 27 on Sunday at a rehabilitation facility, following struggles with substance use, panic attacks and his mental health.
He was the son of supermodel and entrepreneur Rande Gerber.
A spokesperson for the Santa Monica Police Department said emergency responders were dispatched Sunday morning to the luxury rehabilitation center where Presley had been staying.
Police said in a statement: “On September 20, 2026, at approximately 9:35 a.m., Santa Monica Police Department officers responded to a report of a possible overdose in the 1000 block of Berkeley Street. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male who was deceased.”
The statement added: “SMPD detectives are investigating the death as a suspected overdose. At this time, there is no indication of foul play. The investigation remains ongoing.”
An autopsy was carried out on Monday, although the “cause and manner of death” have not yet been established.
With the autopsy complete, Presley’s body was cleared for release.
A representative for Cindy, her husband Rande Gerber and their daughter Kaia Gerber confirmed Presley’s death on Sunday.
The family said: “The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time.”

In March, Presley shared on Instagram that he had undergone ibogaine treatment in Mexico.
Ibogaine is a psychoactive indole alkaloid derived from the root bark of the Tabernanthe iboga shrub. It has been used experimentally to address withdrawal symptoms and cravings linked to substances including alcohol, opioids and cocaine.
Cindy responded to the post at the time, writing: “You are a warrior! Walked thru the fire to find yourself! So proud!”
His father also wrote: “I’m so proud of you and your courage. Facing what’s hard takes real strength and watching you find your way back to yourself is everything. I love you so much.”
Presley had spoken publicly about his ongoing struggles with mental health, substance use and drug addiction.
His sister, Kaia, recently discussed her brother’s addiction while promoting her television show, The Shards.
She said: “When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone.”
Speaking to Vogue, Kaia added: “I think that’s also why I started to self-identify as the easy one and never wanted to ask for help. Because it felt like too much to have two children who were needing.”
