Wayne Rooney has revealed that his wife, Coleen, encouraged him to have a nose job, while dismissing speculation that his striking new look was the result of weight-loss injections.
The 40-year-old former footballer, now a pundit, has showcased a noticeable transformation in recent weeks, from smoother skin and a reshaped nose to a slimmer physique.
Speaking to the Daily Mail before the premiere of the couple’s new Disney+ series, Wayne said he had “worked really hard” to lose weight through exercise. He also laughed off suggestions that he had used weight-loss jabs.
Coleen revealed that she had finally persuaded Wayne to undergo the operation after years of putting up with his snoring.
The couple, both 40, are offering viewers an intimate glimpse into family life with their sons Kai, 16, Klay, 13, Kit, 10, and eight-year-old Cass in their new £10million fly-on-the-wall series, The Real Rooneys, filmed last year.
Asked about the secret behind his weight loss, Wayne said: “Apparently I’ve seen recently I’ve been taking this pen thing about me.”

“It’s a shame, because I’m working really hard to lose weight. Apparently I’ve been on the pen.”
The pair also discussed Wayne’s nose operation, with Coleen joking: “I thought you were going to say then, my nose wasn’t a cosmetic job, it was a medical job!”
Wayne explained that Coleen had encouraged him to have the procedure after he broke his nose while playing for DC United.
Coleen said: “I tried to get him to do it because of his snoring,” while Wayne explained: “I couldn’t blow one side out of my nose and so I had it fixed.”
Coleen is also a regular at the gym and has often been seen returning from her daily workouts. The mother-of-four said exercise helps her stay balanced while managing her busy schedule.
“It’s one of those things, I have to go to the gym to maintain because I’m only short, I want to enjoy my food,” she said.
“If I don’t work at it I will put weight on and so that’s something I have to do for myself, and to feel good, so I do go to Pilates.”
“I enjoy it and for now for me to just focus on something else, that’s always been part of my routine.”

Images of Wayne from three years ago highlight the extent of his transformation, which he showed off at the premiere of his docuseries on Tuesday night.
The ten-part documentary follows a pivotal year for the Rooney family, after Wayne was dismissed as Plymouth Argyle manager and swapped the touchline for school runs.
Wayne first revealed the results of his nose operation in August, explaining that he had undergone surgery after breaking it twice during his football career.
The ex-England captain first revealed he’d had the operation on his new podcast Stick to United, which he presents with football influencer Mark Goldbridge, a week after having surgery.

He revealed that he was feeling ‘a little bit uncomfortable’ following the surgery.
He said: ‘It’s actually really lucky I’ve got no black eyes, but I’ve still got two plastic tubes up my nose, which are coming out very soon. I can’t wait for them to come out.
‘So, they’ve cut here [under my nostrils]… So, that’s all stitched – a little bit uncomfortable.’
Wayne said the first time he broke his nose was during an FA Cup game against Preston North End in 2015 while playing for United.
He added that he remembered the game for ‘a bit of a dive’ he made to win a penalty.
Wayne continued: ‘And then when I went to DC, I broke my nose again. That was a bad one then.
‘So I needed surgery, but I’ve never had it. Put it off. And then this summer I thought get the World Cup out the way and I’ll get it done. So had it done last week. Went well, but these tubes were horrible.’
The sportsman later recalled that during the same 3-1 victory against Preston at Deepdale, his former team-mate Marouane Fellaini also broke his nose.
‘But he missed the next couple of games. I didn’t miss any games,’ he added.
Breaking his nose multiple times will have likely affected Wayne’s nasal septum and cartilage, which can lead to issues with breathing.
The plastic tubes inserted during the surgery will keep the nostrils open during the healing process.
He broke his nose a second time three years later while playing for DC United during a 2-1 win against MLS rivals Colorado Rapids.
The game marked the first time that Wayne had scored for his new club after leaving Everton to move to Washington.
Colorado Rapids star Niki Jackson had been pushed by one of his team-mates into a collision with Wayne, with the back of his headbutting him in the nose.
The England striker was left bloodstained on the pitch and later suffered from a black eye as he healed from the injury.

Disney+ and Amazon had a bidding war for months to have the rights for the show, with Disney+ winning the race with the massive £10million fee.
