On this episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County, Shannon throws a luau to celebrate Gina‘s engagement, even as she insists she is trying to become more financially responsible. Meanwhile, Carmella discovers that Vicki still has plenty to say about her parenting—and pushes back hard against the OG of the OC.
Each of the women approaches motherhood differently. Heather has decided to upgrade two apartments in hopes of bringing her children together, while Jenn marvels at her son’s professional accomplishments, especially since she says she cannot even do math. Emily‘s bond with her daughter, Annabelle, continues to improve thanks to the one-on-one time they have shared. As for Carmella’s children, they are ready to defend their mother against Vicki’s harsh comments. Vicki’s accusations—that Carmella is a bad parent and a liar—have crossed a serious line.
Shannon, meanwhile, is deep in the preparations for her upcoming luau. Gina specifically asked her not to host an engagement party because of the expense, but Shannon is determined to give her friend the celebration she deserves. The gathering is supposed to be for couples, which makes Shannon’s decision to bring a friend as her plus-one all the more unusual.
As Gina weighs her wedding plans, she finds herself caught between being financially sensible and going all out for a dream ceremony. It is a difficult choice.
Shannon acknowledges that the visit to Vicki’s home was a disaster and says Vicki has been especially rude lately. Carmella is furious, and reconciliation seems unlikely while Vicki continues insisting that Carmella is a poor parent and that her boyfriend is the one raising her children. Shannon believes Vicki is fragile, but Gina argues that it is time for Vicki to take responsibility for what she says and does. She wants Carmella to hear the full story.
Tamra is delighted to have four generations of her family together under one roof. Her son, Ryan, joins them despite their historically complicated relationship. Since it is his daughter’s birthday, Tamra plans to give her granddaughter a vintage designer bag. She reflects on how meaningful the family gathering is and hopes Ryan’s hateful rhetoric and criticism of her as a grandmother will finally end. Still, she wishes Sidney were part of her life too.
Vicki decides Shannon is overdue for some new bras, and Shannon brings her daughter along for the shopping trip. Vicki notes that Shannon has been making an effort to spend more responsibly—but Shannon leaves with two bags packed with bras. So much for the savings plan.
Emily has no expectations when it comes to Vicki. She has not seen her since leaving Vicki’s house in an Uber, so she expects Shannon’s luau to be unpredictable. Vicki, true to form, is already planning to make an early exit.
Shannon makes her guests limbo their way into the party, creating an awkward welcome before the celebration has even begun. Gina is impressed by the event and admits that it appears expensive—perhaps expensive enough to cover Shannon’s back taxes. The shade arrives before dinner.
Emily insists she has no intention of apologizing to Vicki and calls her delusional. Vicki acts as though everything is fine, but the atmosphere shifts as soon as Carmella arrives. While talking with Gina, Jenn, and Shannon, Carmella learns that Vicki has allegedly said Danny is raising her children. Furious, Carmella declares, “I’m about to dropkick an OG.”
Emily takes Heather aside and tells her that she wants them to be friends, though Heather is not entirely convinced. Emily admits that certain things Heather does occasionally irritate her, then praises Heather as an inspirational mother. Heather is pleased to hear that Emily wants to move forward, and the two decide to put the tension behind them.
Vicki’s boyfriend is nowhere to be seen, while the group realizes that Shannon has brought one of her close friend’s ex-boyfriends as her plus-one. Tamra immediately raises the issue in front of everyone and jokingly wonders whether the group is made up of swingers. Shannon admits that she has kissed this “friend-date” a few times.
Carmella tells her boyfriend about the latest accusations and concludes that Vicki is simply trying to create chaos. She decides to confront Vicki at the dinner table. As the men leave so the women can address the conflict, Vicki attempts to walk back her comments. Shannon places the blame squarely on Vicki, who counters that Shannon is twisting her words.
Vicki once again says she never intended to hurt Carmella, but Carmella demands that Vicki stop talking about her. Despite having apologized before, Vicki continues to undermine Carmella. Jenn points out that Vicki previously said she does not like newcomers, prompting Carmella to note that Vicki is also new to the group this year.
The OG of the OC, who has held that title for 21 years, clearly does not appreciate the comparison. Carmella fires back, “Everything has an expiration.” Vicki, it seems, has trouble accepting the same criticism she freely gives to others.
Emily explains that the women had hoped to spend meaningful time with Vicki and have deeper conversations during their trip. With Mike present, however, the mood became uncomfortable. Vicki argues that Jenn and Emily were responsible for the tension. Tamra maintains that Vicki feels remorseful and does not truly mean everything she says. Carmella encourages the women to support Vicki rather than attack her, noting that Vicki appears to have built a protective wall around herself.
Jenn reassures Vicki that she has no malicious intentions and is trying to create a safe environment for her. Vicki then opens up about her abandonment issues, admitting that they may affect the way she behaves in relationships.
Just when the conflict seems to be winding down, Emily invites everyone to a Persian party at her in-laws’ home. Shannon announces a couples’ game that appears to involve more foreplay than competition. Carmella is still frustrated by Vicki’s refusal to take accountability, while Gina calls Vicki a “master of this Jedi mind trick.” Although Vicki is not the victim, the women continue comforting her.
