Autumn has arrived, bringing cooler, crisper air — and a fresh episode of The Great British Baking Show on Netflix.
The beloved baking competition is back, but the lineup inside the tent has changed. Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding are still delivering their trademark charm, while judge Paul Hollywood prepares to award his first Hollywood handshake of the season. Dame Prue Leith, however, is no longer part of the franchise.
So who has taken Prue’s place on The Great British Baking Show? None other than the “domestic goddess” herself: Nigella Lawson.
Longtime “Bake Off” viewers learned about Prue’s departure and Nigella’s arrival in January. At the time, Prue shared a heartfelt statement on Instagram, explaining why “now feels like the right time to step back” from the hugely popular cooking competition.
“(I’m 86 for goodness sake!), there’s so much I’d like to do, not least spend summers enjoying my garden. Whoever joins the team, I’m sure they’ll love it as much as I have. I feel very lucky to have been part of it,” she wrote.
Not long afterward, producers selected Nigella Lawson as Dame Prue Leith’s successor. Lawson confirmed the news on Instagram on January 26, saying it was “daunting to be following in the footsteps of Prue Leith and Mary Berry before her,” while also acknowledging that she was “thrilled to be joining the team.”
Now, Nigella has officially entered the tent. But why did Prue Leith leave The Great British Baking Show, and where might viewers have seen Nigella Lawson before?

The 66-year-old British food writer, television presenter, and former journalist first rose to international prominence with Nigella Bites, the groundbreaking 1999 series centered on her life as a home cook in London. The show went on to reshape the cooking-program format and establish Lawson as a global lifestyle personality.
Lawson has since appeared on a range of television programs in the UK and the US, including The Taste. Her arrival on The Great British Baking Show, though, could be one of her biggest career moves — and one of the show’s most significant changes — in years. Her warm, relaxed style of cooking feels ideally suited to the cozy atmosphere of the “Bake Off” tent.
The first episode of The Great British Baking Show Collection 14 is now streaming on Netflix. New episodes will be released on Fridays throughout the fall.
