Police evacuated homes near an air base in England on Sunday and arrested several men over suspected explosives-related offenses.
Gloucestershire Police said residents from “a number of properties” in Whelford, western England, were moved to a nearby leisure center. The force said the situation remained “contained.”
Whelford is located near RAF Fairford, a base used by US forces for strictly limited strikes during the war with Iran.
Following the start of the US-Israeli war on Iran on Feb. 28, the UK government authorized the American military to use RAF Fairford for strikes against Iranian missile sites.
Police said several men had been detained on suspicion of offenses under the Explosives Act, while army bomb-disposal specialists examined several vehicles.
Authorities did not confirm whether the arrests were connected to RAF Fairford.
“A cordon is currently in place but we’d like to reassure people that we believe this incident is contained,” Gloucestershire Police said.
