The Trump administration is reportedly discussing a proposal with Major League Baseball to stage a game inside Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park—a plan that would require a substantial construction project.
MLB officials have contacted the White House about constructing a temporary or permanent stadium in the park for a showcase event modeled on the league’s popular Field of Dreams games, according to sources familiar with the discussions who spoke with the Washington Post.
An MLB official, speaking anonymously, said the league began considering a ballpark at Grand Teton after the strong response to the Field of Dreams games.
Major League Baseball has staged three games at the Iowa cornfield made famous by the classic film Field of Dreams. The Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies met at the site in August.
In a statement to the Post, the White House said the possible stadium is neither a presidential directive nor an administration priority.
Two people familiar with the proposal said National Park Service Deputy Director Frank Lands visited Grand Teton to examine potential locations for a baseball venue. Lands did not respond to questions from the Post about the visit.
Luther Propst, a Wyoming county commissioner, said he met Lands during the visit but said the two did not discuss building a baseball stadium.
Propst strongly rejected the proposal, telling the Post that a ballpark would represent “a radical departure from the tradition of national parks.”

Trump previously ordered the Interior Department to create a plan aimed at increasing revenue generated by national parks.
A source said MLB began exploring the proposal after the success of the Field of Dreams game at an Iowa cornfield, shown above.
Betsy Buffington, a regional director with the National Parks Conservation Association, also condemned the idea.
“It is irreplaceable. There is no other Grand Teton that is home to bears and wolves and bison, elk and pronghorn,” Buffington told the Post.
“So the idea that we would put a baseball stadium in Grand Teton National Park is just—what would the word be?—ludicrous. Crazy. Ridiculous. I mean, I just can’t fathom.”
Grand Teton National Park covers 310,000 acres in northwestern Wyoming, just south of Yellowstone National Park. It is home to 126 species during the summer and 58 in winter.
The NPCA has repeatedly criticized the Trump administration’s approach to public lands. Earlier this month, the group accused officials of moving “at a breakneck pace to dismantle our nation’s conservation legacy within our national parks and on public lands just beyond park boundaries.”
The organization pointed to a congressional effort last year to sell more than three million acres of public land near Zion National Park, along with Trump’s decision to reduce protected acreage in Utah.
In 2025, Trump signed an executive order calling for efforts to “make America beautiful again by improving our nation’s parks.”
Three games have been held at the historic Iowa cornfield where Field of Dreams was filmed. The Chicago Cubs played at the location in 2022.

The order directed the Secretary of the Interior to develop a strategy to increase revenue and rescinded diversity, equity and inclusion requirements in the National Park Service.
It’s unclear if plans to construct a baseball stadium in Grand Teton would be permanent. The Field of Dreams stadium was initially temporary, but was recently made permanent.
Hinchliffe Stadium, which is part of Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park in Paterson, New Jersey, is the only stadium in a national park.
Former Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt also designated Wrigley Field a National Historic Landmark in 2020.
