These kittens had a remarkably lucky escape.
Three newborn kittens were rescued from inside an industrial shredder at a Long Island maintenance yard after workers heard them crying, according to heartwarming rescue footage.
The maintenance employees heard what sounded like “screams” coming from the machinery Thursday. After removing the shredder’s screws, they discovered three tiny black kittens trapped inside, animal rescuer John Debacker told The Post.
Realizing the kittens needed immediate help, one worker gently wrapped them in a towel and contacted Debacker, a Long Island cat rescuer known for handling difficult animal emergencies.
Debacker, 33, who lives in Bellmore, rushed to the Oyster Bay maintenance yard to assist.
Video shared on Facebook shows the newborn kittens purring inside the machine as an employee carefully takes it apart. Moments later, the kittens’ tiny heads appear.
Debacker then reaches in and brings all three kittens to safety.
“Workers at a maintenance yard heard screams coming from inside a shredder that would have completely obliterated them if the machine was turned on, but thankfully their quick thinking saved them,” Debacker wrote on Facebook.
The kittens are now being cared for by a bottle feeder and will eventually be made available for adoption, Debacker said.
“They’re doing good right now,” he added.
