A delivery worker riding an e-bike was killed Monday in Herald Square after a dump truck struck her and continued driving, police and a street-safety advocacy group said.
The 50-year-old cyclist and the truck were both traveling west on West 34th Street when the crash occurred at about 10:50 a.m. near Seventh Avenue. The collision happened outside Primark and only a short distance from Macy’s iconic flagship store, according to the NYPD.
After hitting the cyclist, the truck driver continued west along West 34th Street, authorities said.
The woman was using a JOCO rental e-bike while making a delivery. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police and Transportation Alternatives confirmed.
A witness who spoke anonymously to AM NY said the crash quickly attracted a crowd on the heavily trafficked Midtown street.
“The truck came, and the bike was there, and the truck turned and hit her,” the witness said. The person said they were walking across the street when they saw the crash, prompting people nearby to rush over and gather around the scene.

Several hours later, the NYPD said investigators had located and questioned the driver. No charges had been filed as of late Monday afternoon.
“We’re horrified and heartbroken that another bike rider is dead,” Transportation Alternatives said in a statement. “This is the 20th bike rider killed on our streets this year — the 20th New Yorker whose community is now grieving a sudden and preventable loss.”
“In just two days, the City Council will hold a hearing on e-bikes,” the group continued. “During such a deadly year, it would make sense to hold a hearing on bikes and bike safety — but we must be clear about the risks and the dangers. Seventeen New Yorkers on e-bikes have been killed on our streets so far this year, and our city’s leaders should be doing everything in their power to ensure safety on our streets.”
Monday’s fatal hit-and-run followed the death of 68-year-old Ismael Rodriguez, a Bronx resident who was struck by a driver one week earlier. Police said the vehicle may have been a Lamborghini.
Authorities had not located that motorist by Monday.
Earlier this month, 77-year-old Thomas Bakas died after being thrown from an e-scooter during a head-on daytime collision with a bicyclist outside a Hilton hotel in Downtown Brooklyn, police said.
