King Charles Plans to Heal Rift Between Prince William and Prince Harry, Report Says

King Charles III is reportedly open to helping “heal the rift” between Prince William and Prince Harry through a memorial service honoring their late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

The 30th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death falls next August. According to the Daily Mail, the 77-year-old monarch has “raised no objection” to holding a Thanksgiving service in memory of his former wife.

Columnist Ephraim Hardcastle wrote Thursday that the proposed ceremony could mirror the service held at the Guards’ Chapel at Wellington Barracks in 2007, marking the 10th anniversary of Diana’s death. Her favorite music was played at that event, while Harry delivered the eulogy.

Hardcastle observed that, although the brothers “seem to have rejected any chance of working together,” a religious service could offer an opportunity to change that dynamic.

A source told the outlet that the idea is being seriously considered and could potentially “bring the brothers together.”

“This would be an inspirational way to remember Diana,” the source said. “William could celebrate his mother’s life by giving a reading.”

The insider described the proposal as “far more dignified than” having the Prince of Wales, 44, appear in one of the numerous documentaries he has reportedly been invited to join.

Harry, 42, has made headlines over plans for a documentary of his own. As a result, the source said, any project involving William would “inevitably be portrayed as a rival to whatever Harry might make.”

Royal journalist Tom Sykes, however, told Page Six on Thursday that a reunion between William and Harry is “just not gonna happen.”

Representatives for Harry, William and Charles did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.

The brothers have remained estranged, even after Harry returned to the United Kingdom in August with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their two children.

Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield previously told Page Six that William has “washed his hands of” Harry.

“He has his own family to protect and his responsibilities as Prince of Wales,” Schofield said. “The Sussexes’ presence will always generate noise and distraction.”

William and Harry were last seen at the same event in 2024, attending the funeral of their uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, in Snettisham, Norfolk. However, according to reports, the brothers did not speak.

Before that, they appeared together in 2021 to unveil a statue of Diana in the gardens of Kensington Palace, marking what would have been their mother’s 60th birthday.

Harry spoke about wanting to repair relations with his family during a BBC interview in May 2025, five years after he and Markle, 45, stepped away from the UK and their roles as senior working royals.

“I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point continuing to fight any more, life is precious,” Harry said at the time. He also acknowledged that he did “not know how much longer [his] father” would be alive.

The Duke of Sussex has since reunited with King Charles on several occasions. The monarch publicly disclosed his cancer diagnosis in early 2024.
