ORLANDO, Fla. – The remnants of Tropical Storm Fay are making another attempt at a comeback, giving the Atlantic a spooky-season “zombie storm.”
Fay first weakened into a remnant low over the Central Atlantic last week before unexpectedly regaining tropical storm status Monday.
The system weakened again and dissipated earlier this week.
Even so, its remnant low continued drifting across the open Atlantic.

Thunderstorms began developing near the center early Thursday afternoon, a sign that the system was once again trying to organize.

This latest revival is unlikely to last. Wind shear and dry air are expected to hinder development quickly over the next day or so.
The National Hurricane Center puts the remnants of Fay’s chance of redeveloping at 10% over the next seven days.
Meanwhile, the rest of the tropical Atlantic remains historically quiet as October gets underway.
The Atlantic hurricane season continues through November.
