DWTS’ Harry Shum Jr. Addresses His Dance Background After Earning the Season’s Highest Score With Jenna Johnson
Harry Shum Jr. isn’t hiding his dance history as he competes on Dancing With the Stars.
The actor has an unexpected connection to the song he and professional partner Jenna Johnson will perform to during the upcoming “Mariah Carey Week” episode on Oct. 6.
During an exclusive interview, E! News’ The Rundown host Erin Lim Rhodes asked Shum to confirm whether he appeared as the braided dancer in the music video for Mariah Carey’s “It’s Like That.” His response was immediate: “Embarrassingly, that is me.”
It’s understandable if viewers missed the Glee alum’s fleeting appearance. Shum’s own family struggled to spot him in the 2005 video, where he appeared as a backup dancer wearing cornrows and an all-white suit.
“You couldn’t rewind it back then,” the 44-year-old recalled. “You literally had to wait another hour before you watched it again, so my parents weren’t really into that waiting.”
Shum said he landed the opportunity to work alongside the music superstar thanks to choreographer Debbie Allen.
