Police have released surveillance video showing two suspects fleeing after allegedly stabbing and slashing an off-duty NYPD detective seven times during a robbery in the Bronx.
Detective Jose Mercedes was unloading items from his trunk near Rochambeau Avenue and East 208th Street in Norwood at about 1:45 p.m. Friday when the pair, riding an e-bike, allegedly ambushed him, according to police.
Investigators said the attackers targeted Mercedes in an attempt to steal the gold chain he was wearing.
“The two individuals stabbed and slashed the victim multiple times throughout the body and proceeded to forcefully remove the victim’s chain from around his neck,” police said.
