Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance during Dakota Johnson’s “Saturday Night Live” opening monologue, stepping onto the stage to play the actress’ unofficial breakup therapist.
Johnson had been teasing her history of “two very public, very lame breakups with two very awesome musicians” when Swift, her close friend, suddenly joined her at Studio 8H on Saturday night.
“Some of them don’t wear shoes, some of them are terrible in bed. All of them are in my DMs. Not my fault, though. Some people leave concerts with merch, I leave concerts with a two-and-a-half-year relationship,” Johnson joked, tying her romantic history to the themes of her new thriller, “Verity.”
The actress added that her friends remain supportive, even when she dates musicians. “They don’t judge me for dating these men. They’re actually really supportive,” she said.
Swift then emerged onto the 30 Rock stage as the audience erupted in applause.
“Ladies and gentlemen, my literal therapist,” Johnson announced.
“I’m not your therapist, actually. You just show up at my house once a week with an empty bottle of wine and ask me if I want some,” Swift replied.
“Yeah, I have manners,” Johnson shot back.
Swift continued the mock counseling session, explaining that Johnson would collapse onto her couch, share far too much information and receive little more than a sympathetic “Damn, that’s crazy.” When Swift eventually suggested it was time for bed, she said Johnson would respond by asking, “Sleepover yay!”
“Sleepover yay!” Johnson enthusiastically confirmed.
Swift finished the bit by revealing that she would hand Johnson a Pedialyte before having security drive her home, giving her friend a playful pat on the back.

Johnson also framed her dating life as a public service, joking that her relationships with male musicians had saved women “a lot of money” on the antidepressant Zoloft.
“So you’re welcome, America. Also England and parts of Ireland and Cleveland, allegedly,” she said, alluding to speculation that she has been romantically linked to Cleveland native Machine Gun Kelly.
Swift loudly celebrated the Cleveland reference, which also happens to be the hometown of her husband, Travis Kelce, and the place where the couple plans to live.
Swift also reminded the audience that Johnson was celebrating her birthday as the actress launched the episode.
The cameo marked Swift’s ninth appearance on “SNL.” Her previous visits include four performances as a musical guest, one stint as host and four additional cameos.
Johnson recently appeared alongside Colin Farrell in Swift’s newest music video, “Patient Zero,” which Swift directed and in which she also appears.
The video debuted during last Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards. It centers on Johnson and Farrell as an affluent couple whose seemingly polished marriage begins to unravel.
Johnson’s past relationships with musicians include Noah Gersh, whom she dated from 2007 through 2010, and Mathew Hitt, frontman of Drowners, with whom she was together from 2014 to 2016.
She dated Coldplay frontman Chris Martin from 2017 until 2025. In 2026, Johnson and musician Role Model split after less than a year of dating.
More recently, Johnson and Machine Gun Kelly have sparked casual romance rumors after reportedly hitting it off at Swift and Kelce’s wedding in July.
