Why Prince Harry Could Soon Appear on British Television

When news broke that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would be returning to the U.K. after relocating to the United States six years earlier, the announcement prompted plenty of speculation. Some questioned whether the couple needed money, hoped to restore their tax-funded police protection, or whether Harry simply missed his home country and family.

The couple’s precise motivation may never be known, but one point has been made clear: the Sussexes are not coming back as working royals. Royal engagements and public appearances once formed much of Harry’s life in Britain. Without those official duties, the question now is what role he might take on after returning.

A former member of the duke’s staff believes Harry could turn to television in an effort to rebuild his relationship with the British public.

Grant Harrold served as King Charles’ butler for seven years. His responsibilities also covered work as a valet, housekeeper, house manager and driver. During his time at Highgrove House, he looked after Prince William, Catherine and Prince Harry whenever they visited.

After leaving the royal household, Harrold established himself as one of Britain’s best-known etiquette experts. He released his debut book, The Royal Butler, in 2025, and it went on to become an Amazon bestseller. Harrold also makes frequent television appearances, commenting on both current royal developments and historical stories.

Speaking on behalf of Smooth Spins Casino, Harrold told Showbiz Cheat Sheet that Harry could pursue a television project centered on royal residences if he avoided the more controversial approach associated with the Sussexes’ Netflix work. “If Prince Harry was to be sensible about the whole situation and not go down the Netflix route, he could try a series of him going around royal homes and palaces,” Harrold said. He added that while such a program might not become a major hit, the royal family would likely be comfortable with it because it would remain aligned with the monarchy’s brand.

Harrold also suggested that Harry could return to British daytime television, particularly to discuss the Invictus Games. He said an appearance on This Morning was possible, while a visit to Good Morning Britain could not be ruled out after the prince’s previous appearances on American talk shows. However, Harrold stressed that the strategy would be more acceptable if Harry focused carefully on promoting the Invictus Games.

A lighter television role could be another option. Harrold pointed to the possibility of Harry appearing on a quiz or game show, noting that Princess Anne once appeared on Blankety Blank. “It’s a bit of fun,” he said, arguing that the prince needs to find a new way to connect with audiences because traditional royal duties are no longer part of his life. Guest appearances and a run of game-show spots to support his public profile and the Invictus Games, Harrold suggested, would be entirely feasible.

Harrold said a change in approach could suit Harry, whom he described as “a lot of fun.” Winning back the support of the British public, he added, should be a priority. He expects the prince to appear more frequently in the months leading up to Christmas and believes Harry may consult King Charles about his plans in an effort to maintain a positive relationship with the monarch.
