Taylor Swift made an unexpected appearance on Saturday Night Live on Saturday, joining host Dakota Johnson as her tongue-in-cheek “break-up therapist” before delivering a special shoutout to her new husband, NFL star Travis Kelce.
The surprise cameo comes as Swift and Johnson’s friendship has taken center stage. Johnson appeared in the pop star’s “Patient Zero” music video, which debuted at the MTV Video Music Awards last week.
Johnson also presented Swift with the inaugural Artist Director Award and appeared alongside Colin Farrell in the video. Swift returned the favor during Johnson’s SNL opening monologue, catching both the host and the studio audience off guard.
Johnson began by updating viewers on her life since her previous turn as host, taking aim at her recent high-profile romances.
“I went through two very public, very lame breakups with two very awesome musicians. Looking for a third,” she joked.
She tied the dating joke to her upcoming film, Verity, describing relationships with musicians as a “psychosexual erotic thriller,” much like the movie itself.
“But I have really good friends. They don’t judge me for dating these men. They’re actually really supportive,” Johnson added.
Johnson then introduced Swift as her “literal therapist.” The singer stepped onto the stage in a gray plaid dress as the crowd erupted in cheers.

“I’m not—I’m not your therapist, actually. You just show up once a week at my house with an empty bottle of wine and ask if I want some,” Swift replied.
“And then you flop on my couch and overshare, and every so often I just say, ‘Damn, that’s crazy,’” she continued.
“Is that not a therapist?” Johnson fired back.
Johnson went on to suggest that women everywhere should thank her for dating misunderstood musicians and taking one for the team. She singled out people in “England and parts of Ireland and Cleveland” for particular appreciation.
When Johnson mentioned Kelce’s hometown, Swift responded with a playful “Woo-woo” for the crowd.

The singer recently released encore tracks from her 2025 album, The Life of a Showgirl. The additional songs include “Cleveland!,” a track dedicated to her husband, as well as “Patient Zero.”
Swift has become a familiar face on the SNL stage. In 2023, she appeared at the show with Kelce to introduce her friend and collaborator Ice Spice, who was the musical guest.
She previously hosted SNL in 2009 and has also performed as a musical guest in 2017, 2019 and 2021.

Fans speculated Swift could pop by, as she and Johnson have long had a public friendship and collaboration.
Earlier this month at the Emmys, Swift also made a cameo in a pre-recorded sketch with her longtime friend and the show’s host, Mariska Hargitay.
During the skit, the cast of Law & Order SVU attempted to crack the code on whether she would appear at the Emmys.
Although Swift was caught up at an NFL game for her husband, she popped in for the skit, and a ‘Saturday Night Live’ emblem appeared behind her, tacked to a bulletin board.
Johnson and Swift have been friends for years and have professionally collaborated multiple times.
The pop star wrote and recorded a song for Johnson’s film, Fifty Shades Darker, called I Don’t Want to Live Forever with Zayn.

Saturday was Johnson’s third time hosting SNL. Turnstile joined her as the musical guest. Shane Gillis is set to host the show next week with musical guest Rosalía.
