GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Glen Thaddeus Green, 58, was arrested this week after police accused him of fleeing a traffic stop and possessing crack cocaine.
At approximately 12:01 a.m. on September 28, a Gainesville Police Department officer attempted to stop Green, who was reportedly riding a bicycle without lights in the 1900 block of NE 8th Avenue. According to police, Green did not stop and asked, “Why are y’all stopping me?”
Officers pursued Green until he fell from the bicycle and was taken into custody. Police said Green kept his hands concealed in his waistband while lying face down in handcuffs. He allegedly ignored several commands to remove them, prompting officers to forcibly pull his hands from the waistband.
Green reportedly shouted, “I have a lot of crack on me.”
A search conducted following the arrest allegedly uncovered approximately 3.3 grams of crack cocaine, a crack pipe and part of a Brillo pad.
After being read his Miranda rights, Green reportedly told police he ran because he had recently smoked crack and was carrying crack cocaine and a crack pipe in his backpack.

Green faces charges of controlled-substance possession, fleeing from law enforcement, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting an officer without violence. His criminal record includes 17 nonviolent felony convictions and 43 misdemeanor convictions, two of them violent. He has served six state prison sentences and was most recently released in August 2025.
Green was arrested in April on allegations that he stole a housemate’s mattress and box spring. Several days later, he received a six-month jail sentence for resisting an officer without violence during a New Year’s Eve incident. After completing that sentence, he posted bail in the April case and was released on September 11.
Judge George Wright set Green’s bail at $15,000. While standard release terms require defendants to obey the law, Green has not been charged with violating the conditions of his release in the April case.
