WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has formally unveiled a new artificial intelligence task force he calls the “Super Intelligence Force,” saying the group will pursue U.S. leadership in AI while safeguarding American lives and national interests.
The White House did not immediately respond to an ABC News request for additional information about the task force’s mission and goals.
Trump first said last month that he planned to establish an AI task force as concerns over the technology continued to grow. The formal announcement followed his meeting last week with leading technology CEOs at the White House, where he said he and six companies had signed a “constitution” setting standards for companies to police their own AI systems.
Clayton, who is expected to become the White House’s next AI czar, told The Wall Street Journal in an interview published Saturday that securing global AI leadership would strengthen the United States’ ability to confront threats from foreign adversaries. His comments aligned with Trump’s emphasis on continued expansion of the technology.
