Man Sentenced to 47 Years for DUI Crash That Killed Florida Couple

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Scott P. March was sentenced to 47 years in prison Wednesday after a high-speed DUI crash on State Road A1A killed Thomas Lauck and Julia Ann Lauck.

Circuit Judge Christian Miller ordered March to serve 23.7 years on counts one and two, with credit for time served, followed by another 23.7 years on counts three and four. The sentences will run consecutively.

Prosecutors said March, 63, was driving a Chevrolet Corvette Z06 in Ormond-by-the-Sea on Nov. 1, 2025, when he reached extreme speeds and crashed into the rear of a Jeep Wrangler. Investigators testified that the Corvette’s data showed it was traveling 137 mph eight seconds before the collision, with the accelerator fully depressed. Its speed at impact was 114 mph.

The crash occurred around 6 p.m. near Sandpiper Ridge Drive. Troopers said the Jeep overturned, killing Thomas Lauck, 72, and Julia Ann Lauck, 73.

Family members spoke during Wednesday’s sentencing. One relative said they hoped the family would have “Peace of knowing the person responsible for this devastation will live the REST of his life in prison contemplating how his selfish and careless acts destroyed so many of us.”

March also addressed the court, apologizing and asking for leniency. He cited health problems and personal hardships, including a divorce filing in 2025 after undergoing open-heart surgery.

March will receive credit for time already served. He has 30 days to appeal the sentence.
