Washington Jewelry Store Owner Opens Fire After Would-Be Thieves Ram Truck Into Storefront

Masked suspects rammed a pickup truck through the front of a Washington jewelry store in broad daylight before rushing inside, but they fled empty-handed after the owner grabbed a gun and opened fire, authorities and a local news outlet reported.

The attempted robbery took place shortly after 12:25 p.m. Tuesday at Medina Jewelers in Lynnwood.

Surveillance footage shows three vehicles circling the parking lot before a white Toyota Tacoma crashed through the storefront. The impact shattered the glass and sent employees running for safety.

Several masked suspects poured through the opening, with one appearing to carry an axe.

The store owner retrieved a gun and fired at the group, prompting the suspects to abandon the robbery and run, according to FOX13 Seattle.

No injuries were reported at the scene. However, police said they had not determined whether any of the suspects may have been hit by gunfire.

“It was broad daylight and a pretty rare occurrence for us,” Lynnwood Police Cmdr. Joe Dickenson told the outlet.

Investigators were also trying to establish whether any of the suspects was armed.

“You had several witnesses that were out and about, several pedestrians walking around; all of a sudden, a car crashing into a building and shots ringing out is cause for alarm,” Dickenson said.

Police said the suspects fled in a black BMW SUV and a silver Toyota or Infiniti sedan. During the escape, the BMW hit a parked vehicle and may have sustained damage to its front passenger side.

Detectives are asking anyone who recognizes the people or vehicles shown in the surveillance footage to submit tips to crimetips@lynnwoodwa.gov, citing case No. 2026-37986.
