Abnormal Water Levels Reported Near Apopka Neighborhood

APOPKA, Fla. – Water levels at Heineger Lake near Apopka have risen noticeably after several days of heavy rain, with one nearby resident describing the conditions as “abnormal.”

The neighbor told News 6 that she has watched the lake steadily climb in recent days as high volumes of rainfall moved through Central Florida.

“But she’s even more worried about flooding closer to home,” News 6 Community Correspondent Paul Dolan explained.

Water collecting behind her house reportedly reached about 6 inches deep, raising concerns about how close the flooding was getting to the property.

Heineger Lake was not the only location experiencing unusually high water.

Dolan also checked conditions at Lake Ruden in Apopka, near Chick-fil-A, where water levels were significantly higher than normal.

“You’ll have periods of time — like right now, for example — 15, 20 minutes where it’s not raining at all,” Dolan said. “But then, all of a sudden, for 15, 20, 30 minutes or even longer, there will be nonstop rain.”

The rising water comes as a flood watch remains in effect across all of Central Florida.

Additional rounds of heavy rain are expected to form and track along a stalled front over the region. Rainfall rates could occasionally exceed 2 to 4 inches per hour, while the ground remains saturated after days of persistent, heavy rainfall.

Flooding is most likely in heavily developed areas where drainage is limited.

A flood watch means conditions are favorable for flooding to occur. Drivers should never attempt to cross flooded roads. Remember: Turn around, don’t drown.

The unsettled weather pattern is expected to continue through at least the beginning of the weekend.
