Scream Actor C.W. Morgan Dies as Daughter Shares Emotional Tribute

Hollywood actor Curtis Wade Morgan, remembered for his appearance in the 1996 horror classic Scream, has died at 72. Morgan passed away on Sunday, August 30, prompting an emotional tribute from his daughter, Renata Macfie, who said her father’s death had “left the biggest hole in my heart.”

Morgan, who was widely known as C.W. Morgan, was born in Bisbee, Arizona, and built a screen career through several film and television roles during the 1990s. His credits included the 1991 series Midnight Caller and the 1992 Western romance The Last of His Tribe. In Scream, he portrayed Hank Loomis, the father of Ghostface killer Billy Loomis.

His death was confirmed at the end of August, though officials have not yet announced a cause. Multiple news outlets report that an autopsy had not been carried out at the time of publication.

Morgan’s final credited role came in Scream 3, released in 2000. In the film, his character’s affair with Maureen Prescott helped set Billy Loomis on the path toward the Woodsboro murders. Although he later stepped away from acting, Morgan remained connected with fans through social media.

Macfie remembered her father in a heartfelt social media message, writing: “I miss you endlessly already. I will carry on our Mulholland drives and our Starbucks outings. I’m grateful and lucky to have had you as my daddy.”

A death certificate obtained by PEOPLE states that Morgan died in the hallway bathroom of an apartment building in Los Angeles. The circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation, and his official cause of death has not been determined.

Paul Codiga, a friend of the actor, also paid tribute to Morgan, describing him as “a devoted father to Renata Macfie, a brilliant actor, a loving friend and an incredible writer.”

After ending his acting career, Morgan continued sharing glimpses of his life online. His Instagram page featured regular selfies and personal updates, offering fans a window into his years away from the screen.
