Wendy Osefo and her husband, Eddie Osefo, are facing a potential complication as they prepare for their insurance fraud trial.
The Real Housewives of Potomac stars, both 41, are due to face a joint jury trial in the coming months. However, a new report indicates that Eddie’s attorney, Joe Murtha, may soon make a significant career move that could affect the case.
“The incoming state’s attorney is supposed to be bringing Joe into the Carroll County District Attorney’s office,” an insider told The U.S. Sun on October 11, adding that the development “adds a wrinkle to an already complex situation.”
According to the report, Murtha’s transition is expected to take effect in January, around the same time Wendy and Eddie’s trial is scheduled to begin.
Murtha has previously been connected to several high-profile cases, including the matter involving the late Linda Tripp. Tripp was accused of illegally recording conversations with Monica Lewinsky, 53, during Lewinsky’s scandal involving former President Bill Clinton, 80, in 1995.

As RHOP viewers may recall, Wendy and Eddie said their home was burglarized in April 2024 while the couple vacationed in Jamaica with their three children. They later filed insurance claims with three companies, with some items appearing on claims submitted to two providers. Months afterward, they were arrested and accused of orchestrating the burglary after authorities allegedly discovered that some of the items reported stolen had been returned.
Court documents state that Eddie denied returning any items when questioned. He was also asked whether he had other insurance coverage but allegedly failed to disclose to Homesite and Jewelers that he had filed a separate claim with Travelers Insurance. The documents say the sworn loss statement sought $2,500 for damage to the building and an estimated $450,000 for contents or personal property.
Homesite rejected Eddie’s claim after he allegedly failed to reveal the additional policies. Prosecutors also cited a post Wendy shared after the alleged burglary in which she appeared to be wearing a diamond anniversary band she had said was stolen. In an email prosecutors obtained dated April 12, 2024, Eddie sent Wendy a list of the allegedly missing belongings and asked whether there were “additional high-value items we can add to this inventory listing (i.e., Chanel shoes, etc.)?” He added that he was trying to push the total above $423,000, the policy limit.
Following the approval of a search warrant, authorities reportedly found at least 15 items listed as stolen inside Wendy and Eddie’s home, including Wendy’s diamond anniversary band.
Wendy and Eddie’s trial is set to begin January 25. They face charges including conspiracy, insurance fraud, and providing false or misleading information.
