A Wisconsin teenager accused of driving drunk at extreme speed before a fatal crash has entered a plea in the case.
Carter Green, 19, pleaded no contest Monday to homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and causing injury while operating under the influence. The plea came a little more than a year after the Oct. 4, 2025, crash that killed 27-year-old Casey Sjoberg. A criminal complaint reviewed by Law&Crime alleges Green was driving a Chevy Malibu in Appleton when he ran a red light at an estimated 130 to 145 mph and slammed into Sjoberg”s Dodge Neon.
Responding officers said they detected “the odor of intoxicants” at the scene and asked Green whether he had been drinking. He replied, “Absolutely not.” Police said field sobriety testing contradicted his answer, and a subsequent breath test recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.178. That was more than twice Wisconsin’s legal limit of 0.08 for drivers age 21 and older. State law prohibits drivers under 21 from operating a vehicle with any alcohol in their system.

Officers described Green as “clearly intoxicated” and said he appeared to show “no remorse or concern for the other people involved in the crash.” His passenger, who had been asleep in the car, told investigators that the two had attended a bonfire before going to a strip club. The friend said he watched Green drink multiple beers at both locations.
Two days later, the passenger went to the Appleton Police Department and spoke with a sergeant. He said Green woke him after the collision and repeatedly told him, “I’m screwed, I’m screwed, I’m screwed.” The passenger also recalled seeing the speedometer reach 130 mph and said Green appeared to be “hauling.” Investigators noted in the complaint that a new turbo had been installed in Green’s car the day before the crash.
Sjoberg was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger was taken to a hospital for crash-related injuries.
Green is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 22.
