From NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys to the Jonas Brothers, One Direction and BTS, boybands have repeatedly captured the public imagination. Now, Boy Throb is emerging as the latest group to attract a huge following.
On the surface, Boy Throb appears to be a familiar pop act. Videos posted to the group’s Instagram account, which has more than one million followers, feature the members singing and dancing in matching pink tracksuits.
Yet the band’s journey is far from typical. For the past year, its members have been campaigning to bring one of their own from India to the United States.
Boy Throb made its debut last October. In the group’s first video, Evan Papier, 24, Zach Sobania, 24, and Anthony Key, 33, danced together before declaring: “We’re the world’s next biggest boy band.”
The trio then introduced their fourth member, Darshan Magdum, 22, through a video playing on a laptop. Unlike the others, he appeared alone on screen.
“I’m Darshan Magdum and I’m stuck in India,” he said.
The band explained that they were renting a house in Hollywood and were “so excited to be the new heartthrobs in town.”
“But we feel incomplete without Darshan,” they added.

The members said an immigration lawyer had told them that building a large enough following could help Darshan secure a visa. They then appealed directly to viewers: “Will you help bring him to America by following us?”
The appeal quickly went viral, reaching hundreds of thousands of people online. Many viewers became deeply invested in helping Darshan make it to the United States.
The group followed up with a steady stream of videos covering popular songs. Magdum generally appeared through a separately recorded clip that was edited into the performances.
Their audience grew at remarkable speed. Within a month, Boy Throb had amassed more than one million TikTok followers and 500,000 followers on Instagram.
As their profile soared, some viewers began questioning whether the project was satire. In November 2025, however, Boy Throb posted a lengthy message on Instagram insisting that the members were “aspiring to be legitimate artists.”
“We know our content can seem playful and fun, but comments [asking if we’re ‘satire’] really affect us, as we are aspiring to be legitimate artists,” they wrote.

“We’re not going to let this negativity stop us. In fact, we’ve been actively using it as fuel to prove the haters wrong, which is why we are currently in the process of creating original music.”
“We want to make this clear: We are not a joke. We are Boy Throb,” they added.
The band went on to share regular covers, often featuring Magdum through a separately recorded video edited into the performance

While speaking to the New York Times, Papier, from Washington, Sobania, from Minnesota, Key, from Indiana, and Magdum, from India, explained that they had met initially on social media and bonded over their shared love of music.
Both Key and Papier had previously tried out for American Idol but didn’t make it past auditions.
The group released its first single in December 2025, called Finger, and within months, they were scoring invites to massive events and appearing on major shows.
