Las Vegas Tourist Awarded Nearly $6 Million After Driver Closes Trunk on Her Head

A California woman visiting Las Vegas has won nearly $6 million after a taxi driver shut the vehicle’s trunk on her head.

Lindy Moore was in Las Vegas on April 14, 2024, when the incident occurred, according to a complaint filed in August 2024 in Clark County District Court and reviewed by the Daily Mail.

The lawsuit said Moore was removing her luggage from a cab operated by YCS Checker LLC Operations Series when driver Stanislaw Solowiej closed the trunk lid, striking her head.

Moore suffered a traumatic brain injury that required extensive medical care and significantly disrupted her life, her attorneys at Morgan & Morgan said in a news release.

On Friday, an eight-member jury in Clark County District Court unanimously awarded Moore approximately $5.7 million in damages.

“Our client came to Las Vegas for a weekend getaway and left with an injury that has eroded her quality of life ever since,” Morgan & Morgan founder John Morgan and attorney Amber King said in an emailed statement.

“Living with persistent migraines and the uncertainty that comes with a traumatic brain injury is destabilizing, especially when others question what you’re going through,” they added.

During the five-day trial, Moore’s legal team said it sought to show jurors not only the medical evidence, but also the injury’s lasting effect on Moore and her family.

The lawsuit alleged that the taxi company operated its vehicles negligently and caused Moore to sustain significant injuries.

The filing also accused the company of failing to properly hire and train Solowiej, the driver who closed the trunk on Moore’s head.

According to the complaint, Solowiej was not adequately supervised, and the company failed to ensure he followed traffic laws or was fit to operate a taxi.

Moore said the injury caused emotional distress and deprived her of the ability to enjoy life as she had before the incident.

She initially sought $15,000 in general damages, along with special damages, according to the complaint.

Her attorneys said the cab company’s lawyers questioned the validity of her medical expenses and challenged the severity of her injuries.

The jury ultimately rejected those arguments and sided with Moore after the yearslong legal dispute.

Court documents reviewed by the Daily Mail did not identify the location in Las Vegas where Moore was injured.

There are also no further details mentioned about Solowiej and whether he suffered any consequences as a result.

YCS Checker LLC Operations Series was formed in Nevada on April 22, 2021, according to state records.

Its parent company, Taxi Management LLC, also operates other cab services in the Vegas area.
