Court Hears Russell Brand Said His Sexual Age Range Was ‘16 to Death’

Russell Brand told a live audience that his preferred sexual age range extended from “16 to death”, jurors were told on Thursday.

The actor, now 51, allegedly made the comment during a performance, after which a line of women reportedly gathered in the venue’s foyer. Prosecutors claim Brand then approached younger women and asked them to meet him for sex.

The court heard that, during a 2009 show at the Hammersmith Apollo, Brand told anyone attracted to him to come and speak to him after the performance. He allegedly described his “age range” as running “from 16 to death”.

Jurors were also told that Brand made a vulgar joke implying that fans who visited his dressing room could expect something more intimate than an autograph.

Brand allegedly told the audience: “If I do speak to you and ask you to come to my dressing room, please know I am not doing that to give you an autograph.

“I will give you an autograph, but it will be on the inside of your uterus.”

Soon after making the remarks, Brand, who was 33 at the time, allegedly selected two women, aged 21 and 19, and invited them to his dressing room for a threesome.

Prosecutors allege that several days later he invited the 21-year-old to his £2.3 million London property, where he is accused of raping her anally.

Brand, seen arriving at Southwark Crown Court, is facing three charges of rape, three sexual assaults and one count of indecent assault against six women between 1999 and 2009

Brand, pictured arriving at Southwark Crown Court, denies three rape charges, three sexual assault counts and one charge of indecent assault involving six women between 1999 and 2009.

The court heard from Brand's alleged youngest victim, a 21-year-old who claims she was raped in the bedroom of his home in Hampstead, north London

The court heard evidence from a 21-year-old woman who alleges that Brand raped her in the bedroom of his home in Hampstead, north London.

Brand faces allegations of three rapes, three sexual assaults and one indecent assault involving six women over a 10-year period, from 1999 to 2009.

He denies all of the charges.

At Southwark Crown Court, jurors heard that the woman was left severely traumatised after the alleged attack at Brand’s home. She later told friends: “I would not treat a dog the way he treated me.”

The alleged assault is said to have caused internal injuries and such intense pain that the woman had to sit on a bowl of ice, the court was told.

The woman, who had regarded herself as a devoted fan of Brand, reportedly told friends that his behaviour shifted from “charming to violent and cold-hearted”.

A friend told the court that, according to the woman, consensual sex began in the bedroom before allegedly becoming anal sex.

She claimed that Brand pushed her face down into a pillow.

The friend said the woman repeatedly told Brand “no” and later recalled seeing blood on the bedsheets.

She also alleged that Brand called her disgusting.

In the days after the attack, one colleague recalled the victim coming into work looking ‘terrible’ and ‘ashen’, before she broke down in tears, saying she had been raped by Brand.

When the victim bumped into Brand by chance months later at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, one colleague said: ‘Her face was white as a sheet. She was concerned he had tracked her down and was still pursuing her.

‘He was becoming increasingly frustrated because she was not responding to him.’

Brand is said to have ‘hounded’ her with messages.

‘He really wanted to see her, to have sex with her, there was crude sexual language in the messaging,’ one witness said.

The victim is said to have told Brand: ‘You degraded me. You did something I did not want you to do. Leave me alone.’

Brand replied ‘Sorry,’ the court heard.

The victim later told her parents about the attack, but she did not go to police as she feared she would not be believed, jurors heard.

Her father recalled: ‘She kept saying she had been assaulted. I said to her, “You have been raped. That is rape.”

‘I drove her to a sexual health clinic at a hospital.’

Her mother also told police: ‘He forced anal sex on her and did not stop even when she cried out in pain.’

She went from being a ‘bright, bubbly and confident girl’ to battling alcoholism and mental health struggles, the court heard.

Later, a 999 call from another victim who has accused Brand of attempting to drag her into a toilet in 2001 was heard in court.

In the call, the MTV worker said: ‘I managed to get away, so to speak, but potentially if I had not used my strength it could have been a very different situation with him.

‘Nothing did happen, but it could have done had I not torn myself away.

‘I did not feel I needed to report it. I was just a bit shaken. I was a little bit shocked by it. It was very strange behaviour.

‘I want to share my story as it might help support other investigations and other women.’

The trial continues.
