JERUSALEM – Israeli soldiers shot and killed two men who carried out an attack near Hebron in the occupied West Bank on Friday morning, the military said. At least five people were wounded, several of them critically.

Authorities established roadblocks and closed roads in Palestinian towns across the surrounding area.

Emergency responders said five people were injured, including some in critical condition, and were being transported to hospitals in Israel. Their statement said gunfire was still continuing when crews reached the scene near Yehuda Junction.

The responders said two men in their 20s suffered gunshot wounds to their lower limbs. One victim was unconscious and seriously injured.

The deadly shooting occurred just days before Israeli voters decide whether to give Benjamin Netanyahu another term as prime minister or begin a new chapter in the country’s politics. Tuesday’s election comes three years after the Hamas-led attacks on Israel that set off the war in Gaza.
