WASHINGTON — Newly declassified government records say mysterious black triangular objects were seen over restricted U.S. military facilities on at least three occasions during the past year, traveling at speeds of up to 1,800 miles per hour without leaving vapor trails.
The encounters prompted national security concerns, while the redacted files released Friday offered no clear answer about whether the objects were linked to a foreign power. The documents were issued by the Trump administration as part of its disclosures on unidentified anomalous phenomena, or UAPs.
Officials were concerned not only by the apparent technology involved but also by where the objects were observed: above highly classified facilities used to test emerging U.S. military systems. The records withhold the precise locations and dates for security reasons.
Government-released sketches depict a dark, triangular craft hovering over a mountainous landscape. The disclosure included no photographs.
According to observations recorded in an FBI report, the objects covered 1.5 miles in three seconds—a pace equivalent to roughly 1,800 miles per hour.
The triangles reportedly produced no sound or visible exhaust. Thermal scans showed an even heat signature across the objects, unlike an airplane or drone, which typically produces stronger readings around concentrated heat sources such as engines.
The files said the objects moved “with speed the observers described to be as fast as a fighter jet.” The records were released through the Trump administration’s Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters initiative.
A Department of War memo describing another triangular object said its exterior appeared to be a “continuous (seamless), featureless surface” with no visible seams, propulsion openings, air intakes, aerodynamic control surfaces or cockpit.
The memo said the two principal witnesses reported no physical effects. They experienced no disorientation, nausea, headaches, memory loss or other unusual sensory symptoms.

Officials concluded that the objects were not examples of known American technology. They also questioned whether the sightings involved a foreign system, noting that no known country is believed to possess capabilities that advanced.
Friday’s disclosure was the seventh batch of records made public. Government officials told a small group of reporters Thursday that additional files are expected to be released.
The releases follow President Trump’s pledge to make government operations more transparent. Earlier batches documented additional UFO reports, but none has so far provided conclusive evidence of extraterrestrial life.
The latest collection covers a range of subjects, including the History Channel reality series “Skinwalker Ranch.”
The 512-acre property in Utah is widely known as a center of reported UFO activity, animal mutilations and other unexplained paranormal events.
The records show that the government obtained hair samples from the ranch in 2010 after a rancher reported seeing a skinwalker and said his dogs pursued it through a barbed-wire fence. Investigators collected the hair from the wire and subjected it to DNA testing.
Witnesses at the property described a “black shadowy figure.” Other accounts referred to dog-like beings running upright, unnatural howling or screaming, little people, prehistoric birds and a maggot reportedly measuring about 8 feet long.
In Navajo culture, a skinwalker is described as a malevolent witch capable of taking the form of an animal.
By May 2010, officials had interviewed at least 25 people, including Native Americans from the region, local law enforcement officers, ranchers, members of the Mormon church and the director of the local Fish and Wildlife Service. Each reportedly described a firsthand encounter with a skinwalker.
The documents also address unexplained sightings near California’s Catalina Island and include a NASA memo from the 1960s outlining what people should do if they encountered fragments from space.
