The search for the world’s most famous Christmas tree has come to an end.
Rockefeller Center has selected a 75-year-old Norway spruce from West Edmeston in upstate New York to serve as the centerpiece of its iconic Midtown holiday display, officials announced.
Standing 76 feet tall, the tree is scheduled to be cut down late next week and transported roughly 200 miles to Manhattan several days later. It will arrive ahead of the nationally televised Rockefeller Center tree-lighting ceremony on Dec. 2.

The Norway spruce will be decorated with 50,000 multicolored LED lights and crowned with a Swarovski star, according to Rockefeller Center.
The Christmas tree will remain on display through Jan. 9. Afterward, it will be milled into lumber for Habitat for Humanity.
