California rabbi accused of intentionally running over and killing worker at Costco parking lot, prosecutors say

Prosecutors allege that a California rabbi and educator deliberately drove his car into a 28-year-old man who was painting parking-lot lines at a Costco, killing the worker.

Abba Avrohom Bryski, 35, of Agoura Hills, faces a murder charge in connection with the Oct. 20 death of Nicholas Lang outside a Costco in Camarillo, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.

Ventura County jail records identify Bryski’s occupation as “Educator/Rabbi.”

Lang was working on the parking stripes at approximately 8:30 p.m. when Bryski allegedly drove his Infiniti Q60 coupe toward him and struck him intentionally, prosecutors said.

Investigators have not said what allegedly led Bryski to drive toward Lang or revealed whether the men had any prior connection.

Deputies were dispatched to the Costco parking lot near the gas pumps at about 8:37 p.m. after receiving a report that a person had been hit by a vehicle, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said.

Witnesses pointed deputies toward the driver, who was detained at the scene and identified as Bryski, according to authorities.

KTLA reported that Bryski remained inside his vehicle in the area when deputies arrived.

Lang, who was from Modesto, was transported to Ventura County Medical Center. He later died from his injuries.

“This is a devastating and senseless loss of life,” Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko said. “The victim was at work, painting lines on a new parking lot, when his life was tragically cut short by an individual whose alleged actions demonstrated a shocking disregard for human life.”

Nasarenko said his office would seek accountability and justice for Lang and the people who loved him.

Authorities arrested Bryski and booked him into the Ventura County Jail on suspicion of murder.

In addition to the murder allegation, prosecutors claim Bryski personally used a deadly weapon in the killing. He is also charged with misdemeanor resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer.

Bryski appeared in Ventura County Superior Court on Monday, where his arraignment was postponed until Nov. 18 at 1:30 p.m. He remains jailed without bail.

News Media contacted the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office seeking more information about the events preceding Lang’s death.

News Media also contacted Chabad of the Conejo to ask whether Bryski is connected to the organization and to learn more about his reported work as a rabbi.

The investigation is continuing.
