Kings Rally Past Senators 6-5 in Overtime After Blowing Four-Goal Third-Period Lead

LES ANGLES – Quinton Byfield scored 3:37 into overtime, lifting the Los Angeles Kings to a dramatic 6-5 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night after Los Angeles surrendered a four-goal advantage in the third period.

Byfield settled the game with a snap shot from the high slot, beating goaltender Samuel Ersson. Drew Doughty recorded his third assist of the night on the decisive goal.

Erik Haula opened Los Angeles’ scoring on a first-period power play. The Kings then erupted for four goals in the second period, with Trevor Moore, Mikey Anderson, Joel Armia and Artemi Panarin finding the net. Panarin’s goal came on the power play after Ottawa’s Hayden Hodgson was ejected for boarding defenseman Brandt Clarke.

Clarke left the contest with an upper-body injury and did not return.

The Senators mounted a furious comeback in the final period. Shane Pinto completed the rally by tying the score at 5 with 1:40 remaining, while Ersson was on the bench for an extra skater.

Dylan Cozens scored twice during Ottawa’s third-period surge, and Drake Batherson added another goal. Cozens and Batherson scored just 33 seconds apart, while Cozens pulled the Senators within one with 7:26 left. Tyler Kleven had given Ottawa the opening goal in the first period.

Los Angeles goaltender Darcy Kuemper finished with 17 saves.

Jonas Johansson stopped 12 of 16 shots before being replaced by Ersson in the second period. Ersson made 20 saves on 22 shots.
