GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Dennis James Butler, 53, has been sentenced to life in prison after an Alachua County jury convicted him of second-degree homicide.

The case stems from a November 8, 2022, shooting at Butler’s home at 110 NE 22nd Street. At about 1:17 p.m., the victim arrived and found Butler seated in a Lexus sedan in the driveway, facing the street.

Butler shot the victim eight times before driving away. He discarded his cellphone in northeast Gainesville, where law enforcement later recovered it.
