WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump has rescheduled campaign rallies in Iowa and Kansas after previously canceling the events, according to a person familiar with the plans.
The Republican president is now scheduled to hold back-to-back rallies in the two states on Sunday, the person said Friday. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss Trump’s schedule publicly.
When the Republican National Committee announced the cancellations, it said Trump would hold telerallies instead to connect with more voters. The person familiar with the updated schedule said the Iowa and Kansas appearances were moved to make room for additional telerallies.
Trump had originally planned to campaign in Salina, Kansas, on Saturday and Dubuque, Iowa, on Sunday. The schedule was later revised into a “72-hour sprint” of phone rallies, which the RNC said would allow the president to reach voters across the country.
Under the latest plans, Trump will hold both rallies Sunday. Each state features a competitive Senate race that could play a significant role in determining whether Republicans retain their majority in the chamber during the midterm elections.

Trump has visited both states earlier this month to campaign for GOP Sen. Roger Marshall of Kansas and Republican Iowa Senate candidate Ashley Hinson, who currently serves in the House. The visits were part of 25 rallies the president has headlined so far in October.
