UNC Charlotte Student Accused of Secretly Sharing Sex Video on Frat Snapchat

A 19-year-old North Carolina college student is accused of secretly filming a sexual encounter with a female student and sharing the recording in a fraternity’s Snapchat group chat.

Alexander Michael Evanoff faces two felony charges—secret peeping and disclosing private images—following his Oct. 19 arrest, according to jail records reviewed by Oxygen.

What Are the Allegations Against Alexander Evanoff?

According to an affidavit obtained by Oxygen, Evanoff allegedly used his cellphone to record himself having sex with a woman in her dorm room at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte without her knowledge or consent.

After the September encounter, authorities say, Evanoff shared the recording in a Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity Snapchat group chat viewed by approximately 32 members.

Police began investigating after two people who had viewed the video contacted authorities.

Authorities said Evanoff admitted recording and distributing the video without asking the woman’s permission. He also acknowledged that sharing it would embarrass and humiliate her, according to investigators.

Investigators later interviewed the woman, who told them she confronted Evanoff and asked whether posting the video had made him “appear cool,” according to the affidavit.

Evanoff reportedly answered yes and apologized, authorities said.

He was arrested Oct. 19 and released the next day after posting a $10,000 bond, WSOC-TV reported.

It’s unclear whether Evanoff has entered a plea. Oxygen said it contacted his attorney and UNC Charlotte Police but had not received an immediate response.

University of North Carolina at Charlotte Officials Say Alexander Evanoff is No Longer a Student

The university has confirmed that Evanoff is no longer enrolled as a student.

“The alleged conduct in this case, if true, is reprehensible,” Deputy Chief Communications Officer Christy Jackson said in a statement to Oxygen. “It is not what we expect or will tolerate from members of our campus community.”

Jackson added that students found to have violated the law may face criminal prosecution as well as university disciplinary action, including expulsion.

Steve Mitchell, chief executive officer of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, told Oxygen that Evanoff was not a fraternity member and had never been initiated into the organization’s North Carolina Beta Chapter.

“Upon becoming aware of the allegations involving the individual in September 2026, North Carolina Beta’s Chapter leadership took immediate action to rescind his bid for initiation,” Mitchell said. “Sigma Alpha Epsilon holds its collegiate members to high standards of conduct and accountability, and the North Carolina Beta Chapter’s leadership demonstrated those expectations through its decisive response.”
