Veteran Actress Makes Rare Public Appearance With Her Daughter—Can You Guess Who She Is?

They are a mother and daughter linked to a legendary filmmaker who each built successful careers in the entertainment industry.

The mother was celebrated as a blonde bombshell during Hollywood’s golden era in the 1950s and 1960s, while her daughter went on to earn acclaim for her work on stage and screen.

The family matriarch appeared in the short-lived yet memorable television Western Johnny Ringo. She also won a Golden Globe for playing an amorous young bride in the 1954 John Wayne film The High and the Mighty, before portraying a lovestruck nurse opposite Jerry Lewis in The Disorderly Orderly.

Her daughter was named Miss Golden Globe Ambassador for the 1990 Golden Globe Awards while still in her early 20s, marking her official introduction to Hollywood.

The pair looked effortlessly glamorous when they arrived together at a Los Angeles event this week, both wearing striking outfits and impeccably styled hair.

The answer is Karen Sharpe and her daughter, Kat Kramer.

The Daily Mail has contacted Sharpe and Kramer through their production company for additional comment.

Sharpe, 92, evoked the glamour of her movie-star years in a turquoise blazer worn over a black turtleneck and trousers. Turquoise jewelry completed the polished ensemble.

Kramer, born soon after her parents married in 1966, made a vivid impression in a ruffled red blouse and black pants that complemented her red hair.

She also showed off her adventurous fashion sense with a distinctive Rolling Stones purse.

Sharpe was married to acclaimed director and producer Stanley Kramer, whose celebrated filmography included The Defiant Ones (1958), On the Beach (1959), Judgment at Nuremberg (1961) and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (1967).

The couple had two children, Katharine—known as “Kat”—and Jennifer, who was born in 1968. Stanley Kramer also had two children, Casey and Larry, from his previous marriage to Anne Pearce, and Sharpe helped raise them.

Sharpe and Stanley Kramer remained married until his death in 2001 at the age of 87.

In 1955, Sharpe won a Golden Globe Award in the New Star of the Year – Actress category for her performance as Nell Buck in The High and the Mighty (1954).

In 1959, she went on to star as Laura Thomas in the TV Western series Johnny Ringo opposite Don Durant, Mark Goddard and Terence De Marney.

The series ended after only one season but she made an impression, given the numerous guest-starring television roles that followed. She appeared in Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Wild Wild West, Rawhide, Gomer Pyle – USMC, The Man from UNCLE, and I Dream of Jeannie among others.

Other film credits included Mexican Manhunt (1953), Man with the Gun (1955), and The Disorderly Orderly (1964) opposite Jerry Lewis.

In 2022, Sharpe revealed she had been sexually assaulted and harassed by the comedian on the film’s set. It was the last time she would ever work with him. Lewis died in 2017 at age 91.

Sharpe retired from acting in 2021 and her last film was Fate’s Shadow: The Whole Story.
